Pop punk super hero, Danny Vapid (ex-Screeching Weasel, Riverdales, Mopes, Methadones etc…) has a new record and a new band. To a lot of people this is something to get excited about but really this is mediocre pop punk personafied. At it’s best it is more enjoyable than any Methadones album, but honestly it is just as easily forgettable as any of the reformed Riverdales records. That is the long and short of it. It is everything a long time fan would expect it to be; the “ooh’s” and “ahh’s” are in all of the right places (auto tunes and pitch controled right into perfect key), pop punk punk lyrical cliches left and right (i.e. “wanna”, “good enough”, blah, blah, blah….), Marshall amp/ humbucker guitar crunch…. it is the blue print perfect example of the genre. It is slick, polished and formulated for every eternal teenager still calling themselves “Burnout Ramonenstein” and “Kittie Arsonikiss”, but to everyone else it is just more boring and trite dribble. This record is even less relivant than another Screeching Weasel reunion or the latest Joe Queer atrocity. The production is so thick and bloatedthat there is no room for any resemblance of punk rock or reckless rock and roll. “Devo On Speed” is one of the most painful pop punk abominations since Mutant Pop records stopped putting out cd-rs. “Girl group” is so awful it is offensive.
